Marsupilami

To John:

Actually it's very hard to describe the "magic" the Marsupilami had in its
heyday, the fifties and early sixties, when it appeared in the
"Spirou"-comics as a minor character (as which it worked best) to someone
who never read those comics...
Maybe you get what I mean, if you compare the comic-version (Barks!) of
Scrooge with the "Ducktales"-version.
I think, the most unpleasant things about the Disney-version (cartoon or
comics) is the overtly cuteness (the original Marsu could become quite
dangerous!), the fact that it makes too much blah-blah (the original Marsu
spoke extremely seldom with the exception of a "Houba
now and then) and also the fact that it appeared in a completely new
universe (the gorilla was one of Disney's).
If I'm not mistaken, Disney was even sued for presenting the Marsu "out
of character" or something like that!
