News from my local comic-shop here in Milan: two new magazines/essays have
been published in october.
a) In English: Comic Book Marketplace #95, oct 2002, $5.95 (in Italy 8.60
euro) featuring an interesting article by A. Becattini: "A Concise History
of Disney Newspaper Strips", 20 pages filled with many illustrations about
"Mickey Mouse", "Silly Symphonies", "Donald Duck" , "Uncle Remus and his
Tales of Brer Rabbit", "Merry Menagerie", "Disney's Treasury of Classic
Tales", "Scamp", "Christmas Stories" and "Winnie Pooh" strips. Nothing
really new, but quite enjoyable. The magazine has been published in two
versions with two different covers: one with Barks' cover of WDCS #108
(Donald and nephews sailing) and the other with Kelly's cover of WDCS #45
(Donald, Doc and Dopey). Both covers (amazing) have nothing to do with
magazine's contents. There is also another article related to Disney, about
Grahame's "Toad", but it is mainly focused on different artistic renditions
by different illustrators (Rackham, Shepard and - more recently - Plessix).
Again, some beautiful images.

b) In Italian and English: an essay on Paul Murry "PM: Mice, Ducks and
Cheesecake" published in Italy by "Glamour Associated" - serie "Profili" -
in oct 2002 (price: 8 euro); edited by A. Becattini (again! always this
chap!) and Antonio Vianovi. 50 pages with a biography of Paul Murry (10
pages) and an extensive appendix (9 pages) with his productions, including
animation, comic books, pinups, cartoons for "digest-sized humour magazines"
, daily strips (the serie "Buck O'Rue", not Disney). The remaining of the
book is filled with illustrations and there is a colour section with a
selection from PM's "Buck O'Rue" sundays. Then not only Disney, but a more
complete view of this author. Really interesting.

bye!
