Old money did not become worthless by the switch from local currencies
to the Euro. You simply cannot use the old currencies any longer. But
you CAN exchange it into Euros any time - indefinitely, as far as I
know.

So if anyone finds money under the carpet or in the basement or in his
uncles money bin, this money can be exchanged for current currency.
