Hi all

Some of you have expereinced my reports of such things here before. If you
like to read about fellow donaldists meeting - carry on :-) If for some
reason it bores you - don't read this :-)

SATURDAY NIGHT
So, for me the meeting started as usual with my fetching Sigvald at the
ferry. It was a bit late, but Sigvald was first of the ferry. On the trip
home we listened to music and talked.
Well home in the town were I study we had someting to eat and then we
swapped some things. Music, magazines and so on.
For evening reading Sigvald found the Italian Tresori 3 with
Lustig/Block's Somewhere in Nowhere (the idea or the like for this story
came from Barks, AFAIK - and it has never been published in Scandinavia)

SUNDAY
My beeper woke up Sigvald first, and then it interferred in my dreams. So
I went to the grocers to buy the bread I had ordered the previous day. We
ate these with salami, which I've found Sigvald adores.
After a bit more of comic swapping we went to the local off-set-lady who
makes our posters for meeting. She gave a nice discount and also made
copies for herself so she could commerce a bit for our society. The car
was already packed so we drove directly from her to my mother's - through
a heavy rain, which luckily went away the same day.
My mother had dinner ready for us when we came home at 1 pm. I made a bit
of email-checking and the like while Sigvald updated himself in my
collection - Murry and barks-cencorship was the subject of research.
At 5.30 we got on the train bound for Odense where Søren, my cofounder and
host of the first part of the meeting lives. We arrived 30 minutes later
than planned - because of trackwork on the western part of Funen where
Odense is situated. We lived ;-) Well home in the house were Søren and the
family lives we unpacked, and got some envious looks at Sørens collection
heck, the kid (14) has a more complete collection of weeklies than myself
:-) Søren also has the cbl in b/w which was a good work of reference
during the whole meeting.
For a quiz later in the week Sigvald had brought some disney-cartoons on a
cd - we watched some of these before we went to sleep.

MONDAY
After we had gotten up, eaten breakfeast and whatnot, we drove to the
Train Station again, to fecth the others. I owe to tell that this is not
just a train station - it's also cinema, youth hostel and library, so you
might say you don't have to see more of Odense, but nah...
We went to the rails, after having said goodbye to Sørens dad. Teh train
from east came first.
We first discovered three young men, all in Donald Duck-t-shirts. Mads,
Jacob and Michael had sat together in the train. With my Goofy-hat on,
Niels, the fourth member from the seaside couldn't avoid recognizing me.
Then we went to the other platform to wait for SKO and Thomas who were a
bit late (same railroad as Sigvald and I had taken the evening before).
Then we went to the bus to wait - just to find out that this bus was not
on schedule in this time of year - Rightfully that was not Søren's fault,
but we joked a lot about it.
When we finally reached Sørens home again, His mother told us that she
been chimed down by phones the whole morning.
Already some days before the local (covering all Funen actually) paper had
told about our meeting, and already we had an appointment with a local
radio-station. apart from these two the regional tv station took contact,
but that was not enough. Another two radio-channels took contact (but
didn't make any interview when it came to the place) and the country
covering tabloid paper BT also showed interest, but the journalist got
another assignment.
This media-chaos, as I so freely call it, took most of the afternoon.
Shortly after the radio-station had joined us, our friends from Århus
Comic-loge joined us. They came in their own car, and started to unpack,
while the radio-people interviewed the founders, Søren and I.

Just after the radio-people left a journalist from the paper came and was
told much the same - he was very interested in the science around Duckburg
and took interest in Duckburgs historyand such. The photographer crammed
all of us together in Sørens room for quite a nice group-photo including a
large Donald-figurine.
Of course these two persons were in time replaced by the people from the
tv-station. They stayed for a long time and luckily adviced us to start an
auction, and also asked if we had a msall quiz. Luckily Jesper from Århus
had prepared a little quiz to end his bigger quiz that we had later.
Apart from quiz and auction we also had some comments for the camera.

Now, with all this media out of the house we started the actual meeting,
with a welcoming speech. A while after some of us had to go to the train
again, as our friend and member David Gerstein was coming in with the
train. Another part of us took part of the dinner. (We had had plans about
squar eggs, but I wont jump more around in that) We made pasta with a good
sauce and had ice for dessert - the ice (3 colored) was an obvious
reference to the Bombastium ball in a cold bargain.
David was on a later train than planned so we were watching the local TV
(with 3 minutes on us!)
when David came, and after that we saw some Mickey-carttons he had brougt.
After dinner I believe we first had a table-round, where every man told
about his interest in the Duckburg-universe. We were a conglomerate of
quite many Gottfredson-fans, quite many allrounders, quite many Rosa-fans,
and some not-so-much-Rosa-fans, some Italian-stories-fans and some having
indexes of this and that. We really enjoyed ourselves talking and so on.
The first quiz we had was Jesper's (whose companion is Lars, editor of a
danish fanzine)
The first round was, as he expressed it, clinically cleaned of Barks and
Rosa.
I, if i may express my pride, won the first round, and was thus bowed for,
and kissed on the feet (yuck!) by Jesper).
The second round was another thing... a nightmare! ;-) No, it was not - in
fact it was great to see oneself beaten by two men who knew more about
mice and Disney-movies and such things than myself. Thus David won, Niels
got a close second and I was on a third place.
The price, a Goofy book was already owned by Gerstein who thus handed it
over to Niels.

After a lot of more chatting, and checking of Sørens collection we carried
on to Sigvald's quiz. As a surpirse to many this was not 100 % Rosa (to
opponate to jespers). There was questions about Murryt and other things -
so everyone could be in on it. But again, i hope moone mind that i stand
up and say: I won. My mind seems to be too full of country-.references,
and person-references and so, so I couldn't lose. I only hope everyone
enjoyed this great evening as much as I did.

Sigvald has reminded me that many of us didn't get to bed before 4 o'clock
in the night... It seems donaldists always have a lot to talk about -
especially in the nights.

TUESDAY
We got up around 9.30, some before, some later. After having eaten
breakfeast Søren's dad Uffe and I drove David to the station. David had
enjoyed meeting us very much.
I can't know what people did untill I saw them again, but we continued the
begun auction from the day before outside. I took on a ridicoulous
auctioneers cape and played auctioneer for some hours. We had all brought
many things for auctioning away. weeklies, extras, press material, books
and many other things. Many coins and banknotes changes owners after this.
After this we enjoyed the sun and talked and enjoyed ourselves untill 4.30
or so when we parted, some went by bus, others by car to the Comics shop.
Lars is a friend of the owner, so we had made a special arrangement with
him.
When we came there we were positively surprised. Karsten (now a member of
our club) had made a table with all the Anders And & Co.'s he had from the
beginning untill somewhere in the 70'es.
The store also held many albums, newer weeklies, books and all kinds of
comics and western-books and ordinary books. We really enjoyed ourselves
and helped eachother finding things. I owe Sigvald a great thank you for
helping me complete my 1957.
I know have reprints of 1949 to 1956 and all magazines from 1957 to now.
Sigvald found some Barks- and Murry-issues, and also met a danish
western-collector.
I believe everyone made good bargains with karsten, who offered 10 %
discount for members of oru society. At some point someone discovered 10
boxes in the back of the room. These all contained a model of 313, Donal's
car. The back of it is so wide that a small stack of weeklies, or
Gladstones or whatever can stand there. lars already had a car like this,
so these 10 cars were for us. Imagine the thanks that this made come from
us. I made a good bargain myself too, buying a goldbook from 1991, which
has obviously never been read. I sneeked it open when we got back to
Søren's - but i took care so it wouldn't break!
Before we drove back to Søren's we had pizza at a local place - actually
the same place where Søren and I had lunch last year in february.
Later this evening we watched the 9 cartoons that i had won in Sigvalds
quiz. After this I accomodated in a tent outside.

WEDNESDAY
Luckily Lars woke me up - and then we were all busy. We had found out that
the busses didn't go as often as usual so we had to take an early bus to
get to the train. I guess not everyone understood this, so Søren, Sigvald
and jacob were lucky that Sørens dad had the car ready. Jesper also
offered to drive. We who walked then found our way to the station, where
we bought tickets for Aalborg, where SKO and Thomas live. A bit later the
others joined us - and as time went by we got into the train. We had
places in the same wagon, but not the same cabin... But we sure did enjoy
ourselves on the way.

On the way we studied an article from the weekend-paper, that niels had
brought.
It told about a man who finally admitted his weird hobby, he had a
basement full of money. It all started when he was a kid, when his father
had showed him the bank, and they had emptied his piggy bank. Shortly
after the Bank-cracks came... that made him never use a bank again. At
some point he heard how coins made sounds when they fell down the stairs,
and he then filled his basement with money. In the 40'es he showed his
young lazy nephew this - and shortly thereafter he emigrated to the
States.
He mailed a letter home telling that he had met a chickenfarmer in San
Jacinto who drew comics about ducks for kids. This man was interested in
ideas, and thus the nephew told him about the uncle who swam in money.
Later the Uncle saw a duck swimming in money in the danish Anders And &
Co. For some years he had a subscription and had fun seeing how he was
depiceted in this magazine.

Do you believe this? I don't know if Jacob had yet got an answer from the
paper.

In Aalborg we first went to SKO's appartment - as some of you now from my
report in 1999, it's not far from the railroad!
When we finally got there we relaxed for a while, and later went to town.
First we visited Læsehesten, a big shop with many comics. They also have
the nice tradition of putting stickers, stamps and crosses on their
comics. We all liked that (Not!)
But a few things were found here. A Freddy Milton album and the
Hegerfors-Åberg book about Comics in 100 years.
The next store had 99 % porn, and as opposition to most other stores it
was the comics that were hidden away... we stayed here only as long as it
could take to get the heck out again. (at least that counts for me)
The next store was Comics Heaven, a shop with american comics - here we
found to boxes of american comics - and the new Gemstones weren't even
there - iasked about them, and half of the stock the store had was ripped
away. We made some good trades here.
The last store we visited had some shelfes with comics - I don't blieve
many found a lot of interest here. On the way home we looked for a place
to eat. At a pizza-restaurant we asked about a table for 11 and returned
after a break at SKo's.
The pizzas were great - one was even named Disneyland, so of course some
of us had to try that.
Home at SKO we had yet another quiz - a quote-quiz, inspired by Daniëls
quizzes here on dcml. It was a hard neezer to put it that way. Sigvald and
Niels took the lead in this quiz. The evening at SKo was spend by chatting
and looking at SKO's collection. Lars and jesper broke up, and were about
to head for Århus, but they returned to phone the police as some burglards
had tried to get into the car...
One half of us, that is, Søren, Jacob, Mads and Thomas took the bus to
Thomas' place.
It's best if they themselves tell what they did there - i guess it was
about an info-broshure or such

THURSDAY
We (Sigv, Niels, SKO, Micahel and I) got up and ate breakfeast. Then we
drove to Thomas place were we spend some time looking at his collection,
phoning the railroad for tickets and such things.
Back again at SKO's we fetched the luggage and went for the railroad.
Luckily we who travelled on could sit in the same cabin, but a bit apart
from eachother.
Sigvald and I changed train in Skanderborg, and thus ended the meeting for
us.

We spend the days after in Vildbjerg, Nissum and the surroundings. Sigvald
left on saturday morning.

We made appointments in the society that we should have a meeting here,
between Christmas and New Year, and the next summer meeting is probably
going to be at Lars'
