I think the episode IS directly referencing the original "Parent Trap"
(1961) starring Hayley Mills and Hayley Mills.  I haven't read the novel or
seen the remake, but I LOVE the Hayley Mills film!  It was one of my
favorites as a kid, and I think it still holds up today.  They released it
on a really neat two-DVD set the summer before last.  I highly recommend it!
