Scrooge & Grandma

Hello!

Shelley referred us to the inside front cover gag of U$ 14,
where Uncle Scrooge takes Grandma to the Ritzmore Cafe.

There's also the inside back cover gag of U$ 54, "Flowers are Flowers",
where he takes her to the opera; as a true gentleman, he "provides her
with a *corsage*", ie "a pretty *flower* to be worn on her dress"...

This might be further evidence of Uncle Scrooge dating Grandma.
But he seems to have somehow forgotten about it, or at least not to
be every much excited about it: Grandma calls him to make sure he
hasn't forgotten; he is busy in his vegetable garden; and he seems
rather casual about Grandma's call.
Rather than a date, it seems to be simply a gentleman accompanying
a lady to the opera-- so she won't go alone.
As for the restaurant... a friendly dinner?

Maybe Barks did try to mix a little sentimental plot & gag, and decided
it didn't work that well. He often had Donald admiring pretty girls,
but, except in U$ 2, Uncle Scrooge never seems interested in getting
involved in what he probably considers as just a time- & money-consuming thing.

A great gag along this line is the one on the inside back cover of U$ 46.
The all-young-ladies business school is on fire! The volunteer fire department
(which U$ belongs) rushes to the rescue! All the firemen run out of the building
carrying and gazing at a lovely student-- all except Scrooge, who lets the last
lady (the teacher, I think) walk out by herself while he is bravely carrying the
school's safe to safety!

It takes Magica's wizardy for Uncle Scrooge to be as bewitched by a lady duck
as Donald can be (U$ 40, "Oddball Odyssey")!

By the way, and the other way round, I like Romano Scarpa's Brigitta: it is a very
good idea. I prefer his duck stories to his mouse stories, as a matter of fact.
