I'm not quite sure what you mean by "slabs", but I have a nasty suspicion:
Do you mean that they seal comic books in plastic in such a way that
you can no longer read them, unless you tear the plastic? And that they
then slap on a label, describing the contents of the sealed package,
as there is no way to check for yourself? Is this what William Van Horn
was alluding to in "That Old Soft Soap", when he had Donald produce
soap in sealed packages, accompanied by certificates certifying that
the packages actually contained soap? Ugh!

Such packaging might solve the problem of air reacting with the acid paper
in which comic books are printed, but it rather defeats the purpose of
owning a comic book, doesn't it?
