I don't think there is any evidence that Walt Disney ever recognized
Carl Barks' work as a comic-book artist. The Disney Studio and Western
Publishing (where the comic books were made) were two separate worlds,
so to speak.

However, there IS evidence that the Studio, if not Walt Disney himself,
was aware of Barks' work, since he was asked to write a treatment for a
Scrooge cartoon in 1955. (That film was never made, eventually.)
