"VJ-day (Japan) is August 15th 1945"

It is correct that Japan capitulated August 15, 1945, accepting the
Potsdam Declaration by the Allied Powers. This date is often incorrectly
referred to as "V-J Day" (= Victory over Japan Day)), but the actual date
for V-J Day is September 2, 1945, when the Japanese signed the surrender
documents aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. This date also marks the
formal end to World War II.
